Refrath’s Horticultural Group Brings Nature to Kids with Tulips and Daffodils
The Refrath Horticultural and Fruit Growing Association (OGV) is spreading festive cheer this winter by seeking Christmas tree donations for all of Refrath’s kindergartens and schools. This local initiative is just one of the many ways the OGV engages with the community throughout the year.
The OGV has been collaborating with local daycare centers and primary schools for 25 years to hold planting events each spring and fall. This year, they are running two teams in parallel to accommodate the high demand. The events involve around 20 kindergartens and primary schools in Refrath, where children learn about the growth process of tulips and daffodils in a playful, hands-on way.
The children are taught how to plant the bulbs correctly by OGV volunteers. They dig holes, place the bulbs in the soil, and eagerly guess the colors of the tulips and daffodils that will bloom from their efforts. The OGV promises to return in spring to check on the tulips and daffodils with the children, making the experience even more exciting and educational.
The OGV's dedication to engaging children with nature and gardening is evident in their annual planting events. By donating Christmas trees this winter and returning to check on the spring blooms, they create lasting memories and foster a love for the outdoors in the next generation.
