Recycled Denim Emerges as Eco-Friendly Insulation Star

A new eco-friendly insulation material, home insulation, is gaining traction. Made from recycled denim, it offers thermal and acoustic benefits while being kind to the environment.

Home insulation is a breathable product that can absorb and release moisture without losing its structural integrity or thermal performance. It's primarily installed between timber or metal frameworks like studs, rafters, joists, and partition walls. This versatile material is a viable alternative to glass wool, mineral wool, and Polyisocyanurate boards.

In addition to its thermal properties, home insulation boasts excellent acoustic performance. It can significantly improve sound performance in the home, particularly in partition walls and between floor joists. The insulation is comprised of 85% cotton and velvet fibres, with a small percentage of polyester fibre used for bonding. It's a home insulation product made from recycled cotton and velvet fibres, primarily sourced from unwanted denim and cotton textiles.

While pleasant to work with and causing no skin irritation, home insulation is not suitable for flat roofs or floors due to its low compression ratio. It may require a vapour barrier when used as internal wall insulation. Despite being more expensive than fibreglass, it's considered one of the most cost-effective sustainable insulation materials available on the market.
