Record Apple Harvest in Germany Causes Long Waits, Travel for Pickers

Apple harvest season is in full swing in Germany, with record numbers expected nationwide. However, the closure of some collection points has led fruit pickers to travel long distances, even as far as Balingen. In the Swabian Jura region, the harvest is significantly above average, leading to long wait times at collection points.

In Mössingen, run by the Widemann company, wait times of up to four hours are reported. During peak times, the line of cars with trailers and tractors stretches up to half a kilometer. This autumn is also a record year for stone fruits across the country. Nationwide, an estimated 1,009,000 tons of apples are expected to be harvested, around 16% more than last year. Despite the challenges, fruit pickers are making the most of the bumper crop.

The apple harvest in Germany is expected to set new records this year, with a significant increase from last year. While the closure of some collection points has caused fruit pickers to travel farther, the Swabian Jura region is thriving with an above-average harvest. The long wait times at collection points reflect the high demand and abundance of this year's crop.
