Real Estate Platform Zoopla Joins Forces with Vauxhall to Identify Houses Equipped with Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
In a bid to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and make the process of finding homes with EV charging options easier, Vauxhall and Zoopla have joined forces. This partnership aims to integrate new features into Zoopla’s property listings, providing EV drivers with clear, easy-to-access data on charging availability both at properties and nearby public locations.
The collaboration is part of Vauxhall’s Electric Streets of Britain campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting better access to on-street residential EV charging across the UK. With over 40% of UK households lacking private driveways, this campaign is particularly important.
Steve Catlin, managing director of Vauxhall, expressed his commitment to electrifying Britain and sees Zoopla, as a leader in the property industry, as the perfect partner for this initiative. He believes that the features introduced by Vauxhall and Zoopla will help simplify decisions around buying and renting a new home for millions across the country.
According to research by Vauxhall, proximity to an EV charging point is a significant factor for 40% of UK drivers when searching for their next home. This figure rises to exactly half for those living in London. Moreover, 33% of respondents are deterred from properties lacking accessible EV charging, a figure that increases to 84% among current EV owners.
To cater to this demand, Zoopla’s property listings will now allow users to filter properties to show only those with a home EV charger. Additionally, users can view the distance to the nearest public charging points on Zoopla’s website and app. This information comes from the Octopus Electroverse database and supports EV drivers in making informed decisions when buying or renting homes.
Furthermore, the campaign maintains a national database allowing motorists to request on-street chargers near their homes, helping local authorities allocate resources for charging infrastructure. Over 12,000 locations in the country have been highlighted for the need of public on-street chargers through Vauxhall’s Electric Streets of Britain campaign.
For 40% of UK drivers, the knowledge that on-street charging was available nearby would be enough to consider a home without a drive. This partnership equips prospective homebuyers and renters with the necessary information to make EV-friendly housing choices, facilitating the transition to electric vehicles.
Steve Catlin stated that finding a home with easy EV charging access will become a priority for more people as electric vehicles become more common. This collaboration between Vauxhall and Zoopla is a significant step towards making EV charging more accessible and mainstream in the UK property market.
