Ready and set for the future: Ober-Roden's brand new youth center
New Youth Center, Juz, Opens in Ober-Roden, Rodermark
After months of construction, the long-awaited new youth center, Juz, is set to open its doors to the local community. Located between the town center and Breidert, the center occupies the former Motzenbruch kindergarten building.
The project, which has been overseen by the municipal youth department and project coordinator Valentine Böhmer-Velten, has been completed within budget and on schedule. The construction began in September 2024, and regular operation will begin in the week starting January 27.
Mayor Jörg Rotter and First City Councilor Andrea Schulner have expressed their satisfaction with the project, recognizing the signs of the times and setting a new course for the youth center. They praised the efficient cooperation between Rodermark (KBR) and project coordinator Böhmer-Velten.
The new center offers a variety of facilities to engage and entertain local youth. It boasts cozy seating areas, a modern counter and kitchen, group rooms for movement, creativity, and media work, table football, billiards, and a large outdoor area.
Juz will provide a safe space for youth to meet, hang out, and socialize. It will offer various workshops and creative activities, support and counseling services, organized group activities, and open leisure time. The youth will also have opportunities to participate in planning and organizing events.
Planned events include regular themed parties and social gatherings, educational workshops on topics like media literacy, health, and career orientation, sports tournaments or outdoor activities, and seasonal events during holidays and school breaks. Collaborative projects with local schools and organizations are also in the works.
Typically, the center will be open in the afternoons and early evenings during school days. Additional hours, including weekends, will be provided during school holidays or special events. The exact times may vary, but a common schedule is:
- Monday to Friday: 3 PM to 8 PM
- Weekends: occasional opening for special events (usually in the afternoon)
