Rastatt station boosts bike parking with 330 secure spots by 2026

Rastatt station is set to upgrade its bicycle parking as part of Deutsche Bahn’s Bike+Ride programme. The project will introduce modern, two-tier secured parking systems to encourage more people to combine cycling with train travel. Work is expected to finish by May 2026.

The upgrade will replace old bike lockers and racks with new, secure facilities on both sides of the station—the city-centre entrance and the commercial area. Once complete, the number of parking spots will rise from around 200 to about 330. Cyclists will be able to book spaces for short-term or long-term use via an app, paying a fee for secure storage.

Civil engineering tasks, such as laying foundations and adjusting pathways, will take place during the construction phase. While work is underway, the existing bike parking south of the station will close. Temporary parking will instead be provided on Kulturplatz to minimise disruption. The project follows similar improvements elsewhere. In Wolfurt, Austria, the ÖBB recently expanded Bike+Ride facilities to 244 spaces, including 68 lockable bike boxes, as part of a modernisation effort completed by the end of May 2025.

The Rastatt upgrade aims to make switching between bike and train smoother. With more secure parking and digital booking, the scheme supports sustainable transport in the region. Construction is scheduled to wrap up by May 2026.
