Hallertau Local Railway Club Embarks on Exciting Restoration Project

The Hallertau Local Railway Club, founded in 2017, is a small but passionate group of 20 members based in Lower Bavaria, Germany. Known for their operation of one bus and a small section of railway line (5 kilometers) from Rohrbach station, the club has now set its sights on a significant undertaking: the restoration of an oldtimer bus that once served as a train bus in the seventies.

The chosen vehicle, a red Setra bus from 1984, is currently housed in a hall in Lower Bavaria. While the Setra bus is already in use by the club for charter trips, it is not part of the restoration project. Instead, the club plans to restore another Setra bus with much of its original equipment that would not be allowed in regular operation today.

The restoration project is a costly endeavour, with estimates placing the cost in the higher five-figure range. To fund this project, the club is actively seeking donations and is also looking for historical photos, documents, timetables, tickets, and other evidence of the history of Hallertau train stations, railway traffic, and bus routes.

The club's ultimate goal is the preservation of technical cultural assets from the field of rail transport. They view their work as an exciting complement to what the four well-known tinkerers and local historians of "Bockerl fahr zua" are doing. In the coming years, the club plans to publish collections focusing on the history of Hallertau train stations, railway traffic, and bus routes.

For those interested in learning more about the Hallertau Local Railway Club or the restoration project, the club can be contacted by email at [email protected] or by phone at Tel. 08442/6391415. The club was also present at the oldtimer meeting during the Hopfenfest in Mainburg.

While a search for specific details about the Hallertau Local Railway Club restoration project yielded no results, general advice for finding such information includes visiting the club's official website or social media pages, contacting local tourism or heritage organisations, looking for local news articles or community bulletin boards, and searching railway enthusiast clubs or forums related to Hallertau or local railways.

The restoration project is a testament to the club's dedication to preserving the rich history of rail transport in Hallertau. With their sights set on expanding their reach and possibilities for use with two new bus routes, the future looks bright for the Hallertau Local Railway Club.

The Hallertau Local Railway Club's restoration project, aimed at an oldtimer bus from the '70s, involves the revitalization of a Setra bus, which will potentially be a valuable addition to their collection. To support this expensive endeavor, the club is inviting donations and seeking historical documents related to their region's home-and-garden, lifestyle, finance, industry, and transportation sectors. Their vision of historical preservation extends beyond the field of rail transport, with plans to publish collections and potentially collaborate with other organizations in these areas.
