Race Away with LEGO: Introducing the Initial LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart Sets by The LEGO Group
The LEGO Group has unveiled a collection of exciting new sets, expanding its popular LEGO Super Mario and Animal Crossing lines.
LEGO Animal Crossing Sets
Three new LEGO Animal Crossing sets have been announced, bringing the charming world of Animal Crossing to life in brick form. The sets include:
- LEGO Animal Crossing Stargazing with Celeste (77053): This set features Celeste, the star-loving tortoise, along with a stargazing scene.
- LEGO Animal Crossing Leif's Caravan & Garden Shop (77054): This set includes Leif, the gardening sloth, and his mobile garden shop.
- LEGO Animal Crossing Able Sisters Clothing Shop (77055): This set features Mabel and Sable, the fashionable sisters, and their clothing shop.
LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart Sets
At gamescom on August 25, 2022, the LEGO Group revealed six new LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart sets. These sets promise an immersive building experience, capturing the heart-pounding action of the beloved video game series.
The sets include vibrant characters, customizable karts, and unique track items. The sets also feature characters such as Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Toad, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby Peach.
Some of the sets include:
- LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart - Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi (72034): This set features Baby Mario in his Biddybuggy and Baby Luigi in his Tri-Speeder.
- LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart - Baby Peach & Grand Prix Set (72036): This set includes Baby Peach in her Wild Wiggler kart, Lemmy in the Landship kart, and Toad on the standard bike.
- LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart - Toad's Garage (72035): This set includes two Blue Toads (Pit Crew) and is for ages 8 and up.
Adding a figure to the sets triggers iconic Mario Kart audio and visual effects. Players can use the figures to scan Item Boxes and collect extra coins.
Each set is designed to offer a fun way to experience the Mario Kart universe. The sets will launch on January 1, 2025.
Additional LEGO Super Mario Sets
Two other sets were highlighted as new and collectible additions to the LEGO Super Mario lineup. These sets were revealed around gamescom 2022 and in the subsequent years.
- Mario & Standard Kart LEGO Set: This set features a brick-built model of Mario's Standard Kart from the Mario Kart series, composed of 1,972 pieces and roughly 12.5 inches tall. It includes a posable Mario figure with dynamic posing capabilities.
- Yoshi Bike Adventure Set (72031): This set features a brick-built Yoshi Bike, with a Light-Blue Yoshi figure for the first time in LEGO Super Mario sets. It focuses on drive-and-drift action to simulate the Mario Kart experience in physical form.
These sets are expected to be released by Summer 2025 as part of ongoing LEGO Super Mario sets. The age recommendations and play features are consistent with LEGO’s broader Super Mario series practice, targeting children around 7 years and older for these types of interactive sets.
These new sets mark an exciting expansion for both the LEGO Super Mario and Animal Crossing lines, bringing beloved video game franchises to life in a fun and interactive way.
