She Shines as a Helper on the Farm - Princess Beatrix and Dutch royals roll up sleeves for NLdoet volunteer day
Princess Beatrix, aged 88, recently joined thousands of volunteers across the Netherlands for NLdoet, the country's largest volunteer event. The former monarch spent time at De Bijlmerweide, a children's farm in Amsterdam, where she helped care for animals. Her visit highlighted the event's mission to encourage people to experience volunteer work firsthand.
NLdoet took place at over 7,000 locations this year, offering a wide range of activities for participants. In 2023, the event drew even more interest, with over 10,000 sites involved. Prominent figures, including football star Virgil van Dijk, singer Davina Michelle, and the band Bløf, also took part alongside the royal family.
At De Bijlmerweide, Princess Beatrix assisted with feeding young animals, even bottle-feeding some of them. She also spent time petting a donkey, engaging warmly with the farm's activities. Meanwhile, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima volunteered at a residential care facility in Hoofddorp. The royal couple worked alongside residents and other volunteers, tackling practical tasks. Dressed casually and wearing gloves, they scrubbed tiles, filled planters, and weeded the facility's gardens. Their involvement reflected the event's spirit of community and hands-on contribution.
The royal family's participation in NLdoet brought attention to the importance of volunteer work in the Netherlands. From animal care to gardening, their efforts joined those of thousands across the country. The event continues to grow, with more locations and participants each year.
