Preserved Synagogue Interior Stars in Museum's New Permanent Exhibition
The interior of the Hornburger Synagogue, a significant piece of Jewish history, was relocated to the Museum Behind Aegidien in 1924. This transfer was orchestrated by Dr. Fritz Bluhm, with backing from the Jewish Community of Brunswick and private donors. Today, the museum houses a permanent exhibition, 'A Part of Us. German-Jewish Stories from Lower Saxony', which showcases the preserved synagogue interior.
The museum, located behind Aegidien, presents a range of exhibitions, both permanent and special. One of its key displays is 'A Part of Us', which explores the role of Jewish people in the history and culture of Lower Saxony. This exhibition spans centuries, from the 18th to the 21st, highlighting individual Jewish stories and demonstrating how minorities can actively contribute to society while maintaining their identities.
The new permanent exhibition, 'A Part of Us', centres around the preserved interior of the former Hornburger Synagogue. This historic space serves as a poignant reminder of the Jewish community's integral role in shaping the region. In addition to its exhibitions, the museum also hosts the event series 'State Museum Live' in the summer, featuring lively concerts in the museum garden.
The Museum Behind Aegidien stands as a testament to the Jewish community's impact on Lower Saxony's history and culture. Its exhibitions, like 'A Part of Us', ensure that these stories are preserved and shared, while events like 'State Museum Live' create engaging experiences for visitors.
