Potsdam's New Accessible Apartments Set to Welcome Families by 2026

A new residential project in Potsdam is nearing completion, offering much-needed housing for families requiring special support. Located at Patrizierweg in the Am Stern neighbourhood, the development will provide 35 fully accessible apartments once finished in early 2026. The project has been under construction since August 2024, with significant progress already visible.

ProPotsdam began work on the 3,600-square-metre site in August 2024. The buildings are being constructed using a hybrid timber-concrete method, blending load-bearing concrete with prefabricated wood components. This approach aims to improve sustainability while maintaining structural strength.

A topping-out ceremony in May 2025 marked a key milestone for the development. At the event, officials highlighted its role in expanding Potsdam's social housing sector. The project also faced a minor setback due to water damage, but construction has since advanced steadily.

The design includes green roofs and photovoltaic systems to boost energy efficiency. Outdoor spaces will feature play and recreational areas for children of all ages. These additions are intended to support both the environment and the families who will live there.

None of the 35 apartments have yet been allocated to families. The search for residents will begin only after the project's official completion in the first quarter of 2026.

Once finished, the Patrizierweg development will strengthen the Am Stern neighbourhood by adding accessible housing and promoting social diversity. The combination of sustainable construction, energy-efficient features, and family-focused outdoor spaces aims to create a long-term benefit for the area. The apartments will be ready for occupancy by early 2026.
