Planned New Construction on Rudower Straße: Barrier-Free Living and Social Infrastructure
A new residential project with a strong social focus is set to transform Rudower Straße 184 in Berlin’s Neukölln district. The development will include housing for seniors, subsidised apartments, and community facilities, all designed with accessibility and sustainability in mind. Construction is expected to start in late 2025, with completion planned for mid-2027.
The project will feature two five-storey buildings, offering a total of 86 barrier-free apartments. Building 1 will house 64 one- and two-room units for seniors, including assisted living options. It will also include a senior day-care centre to support older residents.
Building 2 will provide 22 subsidised rental apartments for households eligible for housing vouchers. A daycare centre for families will be integrated into the same structure, ensuring childcare access for younger residents.
Outdoor spaces will play a key role in the design, with play and exercise areas for all ages. The site will also prioritise green infrastructure, including new tree plantings and a rainwater reuse system for irrigation. Two existing buildings on the property, previously used as temporary refugee accommodations, will be converted into regular rental housing.
To encourage sustainable transport, the development will include 150 bicycle parking spots and just four car parking spaces.
The project aims to create an inclusive, eco-friendly neighbourhood in Neukölln. With housing for seniors, subsidised units, and shared community spaces, it will cater to diverse groups. Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2025, with residents expected to move in by summer 2027.
