Philippines Takes Centre Stage at Frankfurt Book Fair 2025
The Philippines takes centre stage at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025 as the Guest of Honour, presenting 'The Pavilion', a captivating space that weaves together Filipino literature, art, and culture. Designed by Stanley Ruiz, this architectural marvel celebrates the country's resilience and vision, showcasing its rich literary heritage and contemporary voices.
Visitors are immersed in four distinct zones within The Pavilion. The first honours national hero José Rizal, delving into his influential books. The second pays tribute to National Artists and Living Treasures, acknowledging their profound impact on Philippine arts. The third zone explores the nation's book history, tracing its evolution over time.
The final zone looks to the future, featuring recent international publications. Here, over 100 Philippine authors will be showcased, including notable figures like Maria Ressa, Leona J. Florentino, Lualhati Bautista, and Marjorie Evasco. Contemporary voices such as Frances Alvarez, Jose Dalisay, Mina Esguerra, Patricia Evangelista, Jaya Jacobo, Ambeth Ocampo, Isabel Roxas, and Budjette Tan will also take centre stage.
The Pavilion stands as a cultural ambassador, celebrating Philippine artistry and literature on a global platform. Its design, incorporating local materials like capiz shells, bamboo, and pineapple fabric, embodies the archipelagic essence of the Philippines. As the Guest of Honour, The Pavilion promises an unforgettable experience at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025.
