PepsiCo & 49ers Launch Reusable Cup Initiative at Levi's Stadium
PepsiCo and the San Francisco 49ers have launched a reusable cup initiative at Levi's Stadium. Fans can now purchase drinks in reusable cups for a €0.60 deposit, fully refunded upon return. This is PepsiCo's first such project with an NFL franchise.
The program, managed by Bold Reuse in partnership with Levy, the stadium's hospitality provider, aims to significantly reduce single-use plastic waste. Fans can return the cups to designated bins for collection, sanitization, and redistribution.
The initiative follows a successful reusable cup model implemented at the Tomorrowland festival. The event replaced all single-use drinkware with smart cups, each carrying an embedded RFID chip linked to the festival's cashless system. This allowed for seamless tracking and efficient collection.
Inspired by this model, PepsiCo and the 49ers project similar efficiency. It is projected to eliminate the need for 'tens of thousands' of disposable cups this season.
The reusable cup system at Levi's Stadium is a significant step towards reducing single-use plastic waste in sports events. Fans can enjoy their drinks while contributing to a greener environment. The success of this project could pave the way for similar initiatives in other stadiums and events.
