Ostrohe’s decade-long crocus project blooms into a 75,000-flower spring spectacle
Ostrohe residents have completed their ninth and final crocus planting campaign, filling the last open space along Unter den Eichen at Im Dorfe street. Fourteen volunteers gathered on the second Sunday in November to plant 10,000 bulbs in just over two hours. The effort ensures a vibrant display of 75,000 yellow and lilac flowers next spring.
The event was led by local councillor Ulf Krecklow, who also chairs the Committee for Rural Roads, Nature, and Environmental Protection. Under his guidance, the team worked efficiently, finishing the task in 133 minutes. This year’s planting marked the conclusion of a long-running project, with all available areas now filled.
After the work, the municipality hosted a reception for the volunteers. Hot sausages, sandwiches, and small nets of flower bulbs were handed out as tokens of appreciation. Each participant took home a share of the bulbs as a personal thank-you. The tradition of planting crocuses at Unter den Eichen has been ongoing for years, though no public records confirm when the council last organised a similar event. With this final push, residents and visitors can look forward to a full bloom of 75,000 flowers when spring arrives.
The planting campaign has now fully covered the designated area along Im Dorfe street. Next spring, the 75,000 crocuses will bring colour to Ostrohe, completing a community effort that spanned multiple years. The municipality’s recognition of volunteers highlights the local commitment to preserving green spaces.
