Old cutlery gets a bold new life at POTT:DESIGN-AWARD 2024

An exhibition at the German Blade Museum is showcasing the winners of the POTT:DESIGN-AWARD 2024. The competition focused on repurposing old or discarded cutlery into fresh, functional designs. Visitors can explore the works until June 30, 2024.

The award celebrated creativity in two categories: 'Jewelry' and 'Interior Design'. A total of 12 pieces were recognised, with five winners in 'Jewelry' and seven in 'Interior Design'. Each entry transformed inherited or unwanted cutlery into new objects, giving them a second life.

The exhibition also highlights contributions from students at the Hochschule Düsseldorf. Their project involved crafting tableware from discarded cutlery, demonstrating practical reuse. Alongside these, photographs of repurposed cutlery in use—captured during a community event—are on display.

The core theme of this year's award was sustainability. Designers were challenged to reimagine old cutlery, ensuring it remains useful for future generations.

The POTT:DESIGN-AWARD 2024 runs until the end of June at the German Blade Museum. The winning pieces, along with student projects and community photos, showcase how everyday items can be creatively reused. The event underlines the potential of design to reduce waste and inspire innovation.
