Obergünzburg's Beloved Goldener Hirsch Inn Reopens After 18 Months
The Goldener Hirsch inn in Obergünzburg is set to reopen its doors in early April. This historic venue, a longstanding hub for the local community, has been closed for over a year and a half.
The inn first shut in October 2022, staying closed through the pandemic's aftermath and the slow recovery of local businesses. During this time, many traditional Swabian festivals—events the Goldener Hirsch once hosted—faced cancellations or scaled-down celebrations. The closure also impacted the town's social life, as the inn has served as a key meeting place for centuries.
Now, under new management, the venue is preparing to welcome guests again. Michael Menzinger has taken over as the tenant, bringing fresh energy to the historic building. Located directly opposite the town hall and marketplace, the inn remains a central landmark in Obergünzburg.
The reopening in April marks the end of an 18-month pause for the Goldener Hirsch. With its return, the town regains a vital space for local events and cultural gatherings. The inn's revival also signals a step forward for local hospitality after a challenging period.
