Nur-Sultan’s bold ‘city for people’ plan adds millions of trees and parks

Nur-Sultan is set to undergo major improvements this year as part of its 'city for people' initiative. Akim Jenis Kasymbek announced plans to upgrade public spaces, plant over a million green plants, and expand green zones across key areas.

One of the key projects involves Abai Avenue, where a 1.1-hectare section will be enhanced on both sides. Meanwhile, Syganak Street will see significant changes, including a landscaped zone stretching from Kabandybatyr Avenue to Tauelsizdik Avenue. The area will also receive 7,500 large trees to create a more comfortable environment.

Work continues along the Light Rail Transit (LRT) route, with greening and construction efforts underway on Syganak Street and Kabandybatyr Avenue. In the Baykonur district, a new park will take shape on Zhubanova Street, complete with green spaces, street furniture, and a parking lot.

This year, 170 residential and public areas will be upgraded, with some already completed. The city’s greening push includes planting over a million trees and plants along major avenues and streets.

The upgrades aim to transform Nur-Sultan into a greener, more accessible city. With new parks, landscaped streets, and thousands of trees, residents will see noticeable changes in public spaces. The projects align with the city’s long-term vision of prioritising people and sustainability.
