Noida's New International Airport Opens Today With PM's Grand Inauguration
Noida International Airport is set to open its doors after years of construction. The Prime Minister will formally inaugurate Phase I of the project at noon today. Designed to handle 12 million passengers a year, the new facility aims to reduce pressure on Delhi's overcrowded IGI Airport.
The Prime Minister will arrive at the airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar around 11:30 AM. His visit includes a tour of the terminal before the official inauguration. A public address is also scheduled as part of the event.
Phase I was developed under a public-private partnership at a cost of approximately Rs 11,200 crore. The airport features a 3,900-metre runway capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft, along with advanced landing systems. It will operate around the clock, regardless of weather, and includes a dedicated cargo and logistics hub. The project is built with sustainability in mind, targeting long-term net-zero emissions through energy-efficient design. Once fully expanded, the airport will manage up to 70 million passengers annually. It will work alongside Delhi's IGI Airport, boosting overall aviation capacity in the National Capital Region. Airlines such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express are preparing to launch services shortly after the inauguration. Domestic flight operations are expected to begin between April and May 2026.
The new airport will play a key role in easing congestion at Delhi's IGI Airport. Its 24/7 operations and modern infrastructure are designed to support growing air travel demand. The facility's expansion plans and sustainability focus will shape aviation in the region for years to come.
