Nizhny Novgorod hosts open fitness event for all ages and skill levels

An open workout event will take place in Nizhny Novgorod on February 18 as part of the GTO People's Games by Sportloto initiative. Over 200 students from Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (UNN) are set to join the session, which is open to all ages and fitness levels. The warm-up will be led by Kirill Belsky, a well-known figure in Russian fitness circles and winner of Titans season 3 on TNT.

The event is part of Russia's broader Sport of Russia state program, which focuses on improving sports infrastructure, hosting large-scale competitions, and encouraging public involvement in fitness. Participants can still register for the GTO People's Games in any category until February 23 via a Telegram mini-app. Those who complete the required exercises online will be eligible for awards.

Representatives from the Russian GTO Federation will guide attendees through registration and test their endurance with a plank challenge. Winners and top performers will receive memorabilia, cash prizes, and a chance to compete in the finals in Sirius from April 3–5. The university with the highest student participation will also be rewarded—a 100,000-ruble certificate for sports equipment and a special cup.

Key figures attending include Dmitry Kabailo, the region's Minister of Sports, Elena Orlova, dean of UNN's Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, and Vladimir Voitekhovsky, Secretary General of the Russian GTO Federation. The initiative aims to boost mass sports participation and improve public health across the country.

The February 18 workout marks another step in promoting fitness through the GTO People's Games. Participants can still sign up online, with prizes and advancement opportunities available for top performers. The event also highlights ongoing efforts to expand sports access and engagement in Russia.
