New Podcast Screw This... Let’s Try Something Else Sparks Hope Through Community Action
A new six-part podcast series, Screw This... Let’s Try Something Else, launched on Blue Monday 2026 to challenge the UK’s growing pessimism. Created by media company Immediate and storytelling lab ANTIDOTE—with support from musician Brian Eno—the show highlights communities finding practical solutions to local problems. Hosts Maryam Pasha and Matt Golding guide listeners through stories of resilience and innovation across the country.
The podcast dives into five key areas: food, energy, housing, decision-making, and social division. Each episode features real-life examples of people taking action, from grassroots projects to creative problem-solving. One contributor, Mark Pepper of Ambition Lawrence Weston in Bristol, sums up the attitude: 'We don’t take no for an answer anymore. So we just try and find a way around that.'
To help listeners get involved, ANTIDOTE’s website includes an AI-powered postcode search tool. This connects users to nearby positive initiatives, making it easier to engage with local change. Alongside the series, a ‘Hope’ survey will track how the podcast affects audience optimism and their sense of agency. This isn’t the first time Immediate and ANTIDOTE have teamed up with Eno. A similar series under the same name aired in 2021, setting the stage for this updated exploration of hope in uncertain times.
The podcast offers more than just discussion—it provides tools and inspiration for action. By spotlighting communities already making progress, the series aims to shift mindsets and encourage participation. The ‘Hope’ survey and postcode tool will measure whether these stories translate into real-world engagement.
