Neuwied’s Star Singers campaign fights child labour with blessings and hope

Children in Neuwied have taken to the streets as part of the Star Singers’ annual campaign, raising funds to combat child labour. Dressed as the Three Wise Men, around 30 young volunteers are delivering blessings and collecting donations under this year’s motto: School, Not the Factory.

The campaign, organised by Kindermissionswerk ‘Die Sternsinger’ (The Star Singers) and the Federation of German Catholic Youth, is the world’s largest solidarity action by children for children. Before setting out, participants from all six parishes of St. Matthias gathered for a sending service in Neuwied.

This year’s efforts focus on supporting an organisation in Bangladesh that fights child labour and promotes education. The young volunteers visited Neuwied’s city administration building, leaving written blessings for a successful new year. Mayor Peter Jung praised their dedication, stressing the importance of raising awareness about child labour. Those wishing to contribute can find more details online at www.sternsinger.de.

The Star Singers’ initiative brings together children across Neuwied to support vulnerable peers abroad. Their work not only spreads festive cheer but also funds education projects in Bangladesh. The campaign continues to grow as one of the largest child-led solidarity movements worldwide.
