Neuwied's seniors dazzle at a vibrant carnival cruise afternoon full of surprises

A lively carnival cruise afternoon drew 270 guests to Neuwied-Irlich's multi-purpose hall last weekend. The cruise, part of the city's 'Events 67+' series, was open to residents aged 60 and over, with most attendees dressed in colourful costumes. Surprise performances and local acts kept the crowd entertained for hours.

The stage programme kicked off with a theatrical performance by the Reservists of the Honor Guard. Following this, Duo Marta and Berta from Heimbach-Weis delivered a witty Büttenrede, a traditional carnival speech. Dance groups from both local and distant areas then took the stage, including an unexpected appearance by the Gülser Möhnchen, who had travelled the farthest to perform.

Volunteers moved through the hall, serving coffee, cake, and cold drinks directly to guests at their seats. The afternoon's entertainment also featured a mix of music, skits, and lively interactions. Organiser Susanne Thiele later thanked the volunteers for their hard work in ensuring the event ran smoothly.

The carnival cruise gathering was just one of several planned for the 'Events 67+' series. Two day trips to the RömerWelt museum are scheduled for April 22 and April 29. A dramatic reading of Alte Liebe and a cabaret piece titled Torschlusspanik will take place at the abbey on June 24. Tickets for future events can be purchased at the Tourist Information Office or online via Ticket Regional after confirming participation terms.

Plans to repeat the carnival cruise afternoon next year are already in motion.

The event brought together older residents for an afternoon of entertainment, food, and community spirit. With more activities lined up for the coming months, the 'Events 67+' series continues to offer varied experiences for Neuwied's senior population. Tickets remain available for those wishing to attend future gatherings.
