Museum at the Bighorns Unveils Floor Plan

The Museum of the Bighorns has revealed its new exhibit space and floor plan to the public. Visitors will soon explore displays covering Sheridan’s history, from its early commerce to the deep-rooted tradition of rodeo. The museum also plans to host a traveling Smithsonian exhibition in 2026 as part of the U.S. 250th anniversary celebrations.

The museum’s exhibits will start with the local landscape, showing how the region shaped early settlement. Another section will focus on commerce, highlighting how businesses drove the town’s growth over time. Rodeo, a key part of Sheridan’s identity, will also feature prominently, tracing its origins from ranching to the cultural phenomenon it is today.

The gift shop will stock books by local authors alongside handmade goods from area craftsmen. During winter, opening hours will run from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. In summer, the museum aims to extend its schedule, staying open seven days a week with evening hours. Looking ahead, the **American Revolution Museum at Yorktown** will partner with the Smithsonian to bring a special traveling exhibit to Sheridan in 2026. This display will coincide with national events marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The Museum of the Bighorns now offers a detailed look at Sheridan’s past, from its economic roots to its rodeo heritage. With expanded summer hours and a future Smithsonian exhibition, the museum is set to become a central hub for both locals and visitors. The gift shop’s focus on regional products further supports the community’s artisans and writers.
