Mural Depicting Metamorphosis Takes Off at Champlain Centre Soars Skyward
The Champlain Centre in Plattsburgh, NY, is set to transform its exterior walls into a large-scale, interactive mural titled "Metamorphosis." This vibrant artwork, spanning two adjoining walls in the mall's Butterfly Pollinator Garden, is a community experience that brings art to life.
The mural, a collaboration between artists Amy Guglielmo, Giovanina Bucci, Abbie Duquette, and a team of artists and volunteers, symbolizes the beauty of the butterfly garden and Champlain Centre's ongoing commitment to being a hub for retail, culture, and community.
Ally Baker, the Marketing Coordinator at Champlain Centre, stated that the mural reflects the centre and the community it serves. "Metamorphosis" is more than just a piece of art; it's a representation of the growth and transformation that the centre and the community have undergone.
Pacific Retail Capital Partners (PRCP), one of the nation's premier retail operating groups, is strategically managing over 20 million square feet of regional malls and open-air lifestyle centers, including Champlain Centre. The Champlain Centre event on Sep. 27 includes music, interactive community art projects, and tabling hosted by Outside Art, the driving force behind Plattsburgh's public art initiative. Town Supervisor Michael Cashman, representatives from the North Country Chamber of Commerce, and other local leaders and organizations are expected to attend.
The Grand Unveiling event for the mural will take place on Saturday, Sep. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Visitors can expect to see images of Lake Champlain and a "selfie wall" for social media users, families, children, and pets to pose with.
Amy Guglielmo, the artist and founder of Outside Art, expressed excitement and gratitude for the colorful collaboration on the "Metamorphosis" mural project. "This is more than just a mural," she said. "It's a symbol of the transformation and growth that our community has experienced, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."
