Mumbai Mayor Joins Women's Rally for Empowerment and Coastal Cleanup
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde participated in the Drive With Purpose – National Car Rally 2026 on International Women's Day, organized by the JITO Ladies Wing. The event combined social awareness with women's empowerment, with Tawde praising the rally's focus on community-driven causes and environmental action.
The rally began at Mahim Reti Bandar and followed Mumbai's coastline. Participants joined a beach cleaning drive, demonstrating the event's commitment to sustainability. Alongside the rally, awareness campaigns for cancer and thalassemia were highlighted.
Tawde used the occasion to honor historic women leaders. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she paid tribute to figures like Jijabai, Savitribai Phule, Rani Lakshmibai, and Anandibai Joshi. She described the rally as a symbol of women's strength and their expanding role in social initiatives.
Speaking at the event, Tawde commended the organizers for blending social responsibility, environmental care, and women's empowerment. She emphasized how such efforts inspire broader community engagement.
The rally marked International Women's Day with a focus on health, environment, and empowerment. Tawde's participation and tribute underscored the event's dual mission: celebrating women's contributions while addressing pressing social issues. The beach clean-up and awareness drives formed key parts of the programme.
