Moscow's Streets Get a Year-Round Green Makeover with 25,000 New Plants
Moscow's public spaces received a green upgrade in 2022 with the addition of over 25,000 evergreen plants. These coniferous species were chosen for their ability to stay vibrant all year while thriving in city environments.
The project focused on planting along busy routes, including Shchyolkovskoye Highway, Volgogradsky Prospect, and Profsoyuznaya Street. Blue spruce, mountain pine, and Cossack juniper were among the selected varieties, all known for their resilience in urban settings.
Beyond their visual appeal, the dense foliage of these plants serves a practical purpose. It helps dampen traffic noise and forms a natural screen between roads and pedestrian areas.
The initiative has introduced thousands of hardy evergreens to Moscow's streets. Their year-round greenery and noise-reducing properties aim to improve the city's public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
