Morgenland Festival 2026 Unveils Voices of the Diaspora Under New Leadership
The Morgenland Festival Osnabrück 2026 will take place from May 29 to June 6, with a fresh artistic vision. Shabnam Parvaresh, an Iranian clarinetist and curator, steps in as the new artistic director. This year’s theme, Voices of the Diaspora, highlights artists whose work reflects migration and cultural exchange.
The festival opens with Ganavya, a vocalist blending South Indian classical music, jazz, and ambient soundscapes. Egyptian poet and vocalist Abdullah Miniawy will also perform, offering an immersive sonic experience. Yazz Ahmed, meanwhile, merges contemporary jazz with Arab musical traditions.
Beyond performances, the event strengthens local ties. Workshops with Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences’ Institute of Music will connect students directly with international artists. A collaboration with Kunstraum hase29 will present Topographies of Resistance, a contemporary art exhibition. Before the main festival, a special event on January 25, 2026, at Lagerhalle Saal will feature Die Konferenz der Vögel. Performed by Neda Rahmanian and Shabnam Parvaresh, the piece adapts Farid ud-Din Attar’s poetry, exploring themes of migration and transformation. The festival reimagines Morgenland—traditionally meaning the Orient—as a forward-looking space for artistic freedom. Its 2026 edition deepens engagement with local universities and art institutions, embedding the event further in Osnabrück’s cultural landscape.
The 2026 Morgenland Festival brings together global artists and local communities. Through performances, workshops, and exhibitions, it spotlights diasporic voices and creative exchange. The programme runs from late May to early June, with a preview event in January.
