Monferrato Trek gallops into its third year as a beloved equestrian tradition
The Monferrato Trek, a unique horseback riding event, has grown from a small gathering into a celebrated tradition. What began as a casual ride among friends is now entering its third year, attracting riders from across the regions. Founder Andrea Acuto created the trek to showcase the beauty of Monferrato and the spirit of its people.
The first edition of the Monferrato Trek took place in 2024, covering a 20-kilometre route to the Bispeder Farmhouse. Riders also explored scenic spots like the Sacro Monte di Crea, adding to the event's charm. Acuto admitted he was unsure at first whether the idea would succeed.
In 2025, the trek expanded significantly. Starting in Moncalvo, Italy's smallest city, the event lasted an extended weekend and saw participation jump from around 30 horses to an average of 90 per day. On one day alone, 90 rider-horse pairs took part, proving the trek's growing appeal.
The 2026 edition is already planned for May 1–3, with Grana Monferrato as the starting point. The trek offers more than just a ride—it's a way to experience the region's landscapes at a horse's pace while fostering a sense of community.
From a modest beginning, the Monferrato Trek has become a highlight for riders and locals alike. The 2026 event will continue the tradition, bringing together horse enthusiasts and showcasing the region's natural and cultural treasures. Organisers expect even greater interest as the trek's reputation spreads.
