Moers unites for record-breaking community cleanup day
Moers recently held its annual cleanup day, drawing strong support from the community. Organised by Claudia Jaeckel, the main event saw high participation thanks to ideal weather. Volunteers worked together to clear litter and illegal waste from public spaces across the town.
The initiative brought together individuals, families, schools, and local clubs. Many groups even took part before and after the official date to ensure wider coverage. Among the unusual finds this year was the remains of a moped, which police helped remove.
Local politicians, including Mayor Julia Zupancic, attended to show their backing. Zupancic stressed that keeping Moers clean is a shared responsibility. Enni board member Sandra Jungmaier also praised the community's teamwork, noting how the effort made a visible difference.
Materials provided by Enni were collected for reuse in future cleanups, reinforcing the event's sustainability focus. Organiser Claudia Jaeckel used the occasion to remind residents about the seriousness of illegal dumping and its impact on the environment.
The cleanup day wrapped up successfully, with volunteers removing waste and raising awareness. The reused materials will support next year's efforts, reducing costs and environmental impact. Town officials and organisers have already begun planning for the 2025 event.
