Minnesota's Monster Pumpkin Challenge Returns With Free Seeds and Expert Tips
A popular pumpkin-growing challenge, the Grow a Monster: Supersize my Pumpkin programme, is returning to Minnesota this spring. The initiative offers free giant pumpkin seeds and expert advice to participants. Registration begins on 1 March, with a deadline of 24 March for those wanting to take part.
The challenge first launched in 2020, encouraging growers to cultivate massive pumpkins. This year, organisers are again providing seeds, a planting guide, and ongoing support throughout the summer. Participants will receive tips on nurturing their plants, troubleshooting common problems, and engaging content to keep them motivated.
Those who join can showcase their pumpkins at local county fairs or compete in a statewide contest. The goal is to grow the largest pumpkin in each county, with the biggest entry earning the title of Minnesota's largest pumpkin. The programme is open to everyone, from young Cloverbuds to experienced gardeners.
Registration is now live on 4HOnline or via the link z.umn.edu/Growamonstersupersizemypumpkin. All sign-ups must be completed by 24 March to secure free seeds and growing resources.
The challenge gives growers a chance to test their skills and potentially win recognition for their efforts. Successful participants will have their pumpkins displayed at fairs or judged in the autumn contest. Organisers hope the programme will inspire more people to take up gardening and celebrate Minnesota's agricultural spirit.
