Google Pixel 9 Unveils Custom AI-Generated Stickers Through Gboard
Google has introduced an exciting new feature for its latest device, the Google Pixel 9. Users of this smartphone can now create custom AI-generated stickers through Gboard, thanks to Google's Gemini AI model.
This innovative feature is part of a recent Gboard update (v15.5), which also restores a more familiar emoji picker layout while retaining some new UI elements. The custom sticker creation is currently exclusive to the Pixel 9, but it is expected to be extended to the Pixel 10 after its launch.
To utilize this feature, press the AI sticker button, which is identified by the star icon. The custom AI stickers are available on devices with their default language set to English, Japanese, or German. To access the emoji and sticker keyboard, simply tap the emoji symbol.
The Google Pixel 9 base model is capable of running Gemini Nano on-device, offering access to all of Google's cloud-based features, including custom AI stickers. If you'd like to create AI stickers using the Pixel Studio app, you can do so on a Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, or Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
To create an AI sticker, you can choose between "Create with AI" or "Create from image". Type a text prompt, optionally choose a style by picking an emoji, and hit enter. Your new AI sticker will then be generated.
The custom AI stickers feature was introduced with the June 2025 Pixel Feature Drop. To try it out, simply find the new tab in the Gboard emoji keyboard on your Pixel 9 series phone. Remember to ensure both the Gboard and Pixel Studio apps are updated from the Google Play Store.
When you receive your sticker, you can either press "Save" or "Send". Pressing "Save" adds the AI sticker to your saved collection, while pressing "Send" inserts the sticker into your text field while also saving it.
Please note that custom AI stickers cannot generate anything that remotely resembles a person. Also, this feature is exclusive to the Google Pixel 9 series devices.
The first time you create an AI sticker, you'll need to press "Continue" to agree to Pixel Studio's terms and conditions. To use the custom AI stickers feature, your device must be updated to the latest version of Android 16.
