Meet Sébastien and Philippine: The Adult Children Living with Their Parents by Choice
Sébastien, a 36-year-old caregiver, has returned to live with his mother to save money for a new apartment and change his career. His mother, while enjoying his company, refuses to let him contribute to the rent. Meanwhile, 28-year-old Philippine has lived with her parents for over 20 years, finding it practical due to her seasonal work and their cohabitation agreement.
Sébastien, who moved back in to finish his studies, helps with groceries but not rent. His mother, fondly calling him her 'little one', was initially surprised but happy with his return. They have grown closer since. Philippine, a seasonal worker, lives rent-free for half the year. She informs her parents when she won't be home, feeling completely free and at home. Neither Sébastien nor Philippine has plans to move out soon.
Both Sébastien and Philippine find living with their parents beneficial for different reasons. While Sébastien saves for a new apartment, Philippine enjoys the freedom and practicality of her arrangement. Their parents, in turn, appreciate their company.
