MaxiPark introduces MaxiGarden expansion
The federal government has given its approval for a multi-million euro grant to fund the Easter expansion of Maximilianpark in Hamm, Germany. This project, planned for presidents day 2025, is one of 53 nationwide for climate adaptation in the federal program "Adaptation of urban and rural areas to climate change."
The expansion, named the MaxiGarden project, aims to create a climate-resilient microclimate adapted to global warming. It includes the creation of a Maxiplaza in front of the workshop hall, followed by the expansion of the Maxipark with the MaxiGarden.
Michael Thews, MP for Hamm - Unna II, expressed satisfaction with the federal funds for the garden competence center in Maxipark, combining biodiversity, climate adaptation, and environmental protection.
Andreas Mentz, City Building Director of Hamm, expressed excitement about the future-oriented chapter for Maximilian Park with the funding approval for the MaxiGarden. Jörg Rogalla, the Maxipark CEO, expects the MaxiGarden to maintain high aesthetic and quality standards while radiating more due to the climate-resilience focus.
Nina Frense, CEO of IGA Metropole Ruhr 2027 GmbH, considers the Maxipark project as a center of competence with an international claim. The MaxiGarden is expected to inspire thousands of visitors to take new paths for climate-resilient transformation of their personal green spaces.
The Maximilianpark, which receives over 450,000 visitors per year and serves a large catchment area, will also feature a kitchen integrated into the training building for environmental education, including cooking with fruits and vegetables grown in the MaxiGarden.
The project is focused on climate-resilient plants, rainwater storage, and improved irrigation and drainage. Further information on the MaxiGarden project can be found on the service portal. For project development and property-related inquiries, please contact [redacted].
Federal Minister of Housing Hubertz has approved the grant, with the MaxiGarden project aiming to address the design of parks in a future-oriented way in the face of climate change. However, at the time of writing, the search results do not provide information about the architect or landscape architect responsible for the "IGA Project, Maximilianpark, and Garden Competence Center."
This exciting development marks a significant step towards creating a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for Maximilianpark and the city of Hamm on presidents day 2025.
