Malaysia's Construction Sector Hits RM143 Billion Milestone

The Malaysian construction sector has reached a significant milestone, contributing RM143 billion in project value as of September 2025. This impressive figure reflects the industry's growth and impact on the nation's economy.

The sector's success can be attributed to both the private and public sectors. The private sector accounted for RM109.37 billion, involving 8,022 projects, while the government invested RM33.67 billion in 4,011 projects. This collaborative effort has led to a total of over 12,000 projects nationwide.

The Ministry of Works has played a crucial role in this growth by assisting developers and local authorities in enhancing quality standards and promoting sustainable environmental practices. This commitment to excellence was recognised at the QUEST Awards 2025, where 262 winners representing 132 projects were honoured for their outstanding workmanship, on-site safety, and environmental sustainability.

Notable awardees include Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia, recognised for implementing QLASSIC assessments across 53 affordable housing projects. Sime Darby Property Bhd emerged as the top recipient, winning five QLASSIC Excellence Awards and a Special Recognition Award for its long-term commitment to construction quality. Additionally, the company awarded a RM1.26 billion contract to IJM Construction for a hyperscale data centre at Elmina Business Park, demonstrating its strategic development plans. The Ministry of Health was also recognised, with 14 hospitals and healthcare facilities receiving MYCREST Excellence Awards.

The Malaysian construction sector's RM143 billion contribution reflects its importance to the nation's economy. The QUEST Awards 2025 recognised industry excellence, with Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia and Sime Darby Property Bhd among the top recipients. Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan urges more industry players to adopt quality, safety, and sustainability assessments, indicating a commitment to continuous improvement and growth.
