Mainz Transforms Weisenauer Street for Safer Cycling and Enhanced Streetscape
The city of Mainz is transforming Weisenauer Street to boost cyclist safety and enhance the streetscape. The project, part of the Transform-R research initiative, aims to improve regional mobility and quality of life.
The redesign, set to impact traffic on Mainz Street and benefit the entire quarter, includes a bike street between Mainz Street and Ludwig Street. Motor vehicles will follow a one-way route towards the city center. This change seeks to bolster local and regional bicycle traffic, connecting to the planned fast bike route between Mainz and Frankfurt. Notably, Weisenauer Street also serves as a school route to the city center elementary school, making it a crucial part of the city's school bike route network. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and involves regional partners.
The complete bicycle traffic concept and further directions on the Weisenauer Street redesign can be found on the city's website. The project, part of the Transform-R funding project, is expected to enhance mobility and improve the quality of life in the region.
