Luxurious 4K cinema secretly tucked away in a Victorian manor demonstrates expert use of spatial arrangement
In a remarkable feat of design and technology, Finite Solutions has transformed an unused storage room in a Victorian manor in Derbyshire into a high-end hidden 4K cinema. This project showcases the seamless blending of modern technology and period architecture, proving that even the oldest properties can host state-of-the-art home entertainment systems.
Key Features of the Derbyshire Home Cinema System
The spatial planning and integration of the cinema were meticulously thought out to fit neatly into the small storage space, respecting the historic fabric while creating an optimal acoustic and viewing environment.
High-performance AV equipment was selected following demonstrations at Finite Solutions' show house and a supplier facility. The speakers used are Wisdom brand, with specific models for front (P4i), sides and rear (P2i), overhead (P2i), and subwoofers (S90), powered by Wisdom DSP amplifiers. The projector used is a JVC NZ9 paired with a Palladin lens, and the screen is a Screen Research CinemaScope, supporting wide aspect ratio. The processing and amplification are handled by Trinnov Altitude 16 and Trinnov Amplitude 16 respectively. Sources include Kaleidescape media server, Panasonic Blu-ray player, Apple TV, and Sky Q Silver.
Smart Control and Lighting
The Control4 CORE1 system with Halo remote and Lutron RA2 lighting control enable a seamless user experience and ambience management, allowing the clients to intuitively control the AV, lighting, ventilation, and heating systems.
Challenges and Solutions
Adapting modern AV technology within an old structure, acoustic treatment, hidden and discrete installation, power and networking infrastructure, and custom control integration were likely challenges faced during this project. Finite Solutions expertly addressed these challenges, demonstrating their expertise in spatial planning, equipment selection, and bespoke design.
The home cinema system underwent expert calibration using an Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) qualified engineer. The heat recovery ventilation system required drilling 100mm holes through 600mm external walls. The design of the home cinema system included acoustically sealed hidden doors behind wall columns and panels, which can be switched to add additional warmth or to expel heat externally when the room becomes too warm.
In conclusion, the Derbyshire project exemplifies how expert spatial planning, careful equipment selection, and bespoke design solve the challenges inherent in integrating a state-of-the-art home cinema into a historic Victorian manor. The resulting system is a strong all-rounder suitable for movies, TV shows, and sport.
