Lünen's StadtGartenQuartier unites for a cleaner community cleanup
Dozens of residents in Lünen's StadtGartenQuartier took part in a litter collection drive on March 15. The event, organised by Stefan Kaspari and Carla Armbrüster, aimed to improve local cleanliness as part of a wider city initiative. Volunteers received small gifts of native wildflower and grass seeds for their efforts.
Participants gathered to clear rubbish from streets and green spaces. They used grabber tools and trash bags supplied by Mein sauberes Lünen e.V. and Waldschule Cappenberg. Common litter included cigarette butts, chewing gum, and food packaging.
Among the unusual finds were a single shoe, a doormat, and empty nitrous oxide canisters. Larger items, such as abandoned shopping trolleys, bulky waste, and a deserted trailer, were reported to the city for removal. The collected trash was taken to the municipal yard on Kirchhofstraße for proper disposal. The cleanup involved support from volunteers at the Multicultural Forum. Unlike other districts in Lünen, the StadtGartenQuartier is the only area so far to hold regular litter collection events under the city's cleanliness campaign. Another cleanup is planned for September 20, coinciding with World Cleanup Day.
The event marked the first of its kind in the StadtGartenQuartier, with no similar regular actions recorded elsewhere in Lünen. Organisers and volunteers will return on September 20 to continue their efforts. The initiative aims to maintain cleaner public spaces through community involvement.
