Lucknow declares emergency as AQI hits ‘very unhealthy’ levels
Lucknow's air quality has been deteriorating, with the AQI reaching very unhealthy levels. In response, a high-level emergency meeting was held, and an action plan was ordered to tackle the issue.
On Friday, the average AQI in the city was 203, categorized as very unhealthy. This prompted an emergency conference on November 15 at the SBM Hall of LMC in Lucknow, attended by officials from environmental, health, urban planning, and local administration departments. They developed a comprehensive action plan to immediately improve air quality.
The plan includes ordering regular water sprinkling on dust-prone stretches and increased mechanised sweeping. Construction sites have been instructed to strictly follow dust-control norms. Vehicles transporting sand, gravel, or soil without proper covering will be penalised. High-risk zones for pollution have been identified, and responsible officers have been assigned for accountability. A special enforcement unit has been formed to conduct daily inspections and take on-the-spot action against pollution violations.
While the AQI improved to 182 on Saturday, it remained unhealthy. The ordered action plan aims to further improve air quality in Lucknow. Officials are committed to implementing these measures to ensure the city's air meets healthy standards.
