Lower Bavaria Unites to Fight Cyber Threats: First Annual ISO Conference
Lower Bavarian municipalities are taking cyber threats more seriously, focusing on prevention and regular exchange among Information Security Officers (ISOs). The first annual conference for these professionals was held at the Landshut District Administration, with Cynthia Derra from the Bavarian District Association in attendance, highlighting the importance of the topic for municipal peak bodies.
The Landshut District Administration, which was the first to be certified according to the ISIS12 standard in 2018, has held an independent ISO position since 2022. The conference, initiated by the Landshut District Administration and the City of Passau, provided a practical exchange on the challenges and best practices of municipal information security. The event was attended by ISOs from Lower Bavarian district administrations and independent cities, aiming to strengthen municipal information security in the region.
The District of Anhalt-Bitterfeld's multi-million euro loss due to a cyber attack served as a stark reminder of the rising threat to municipal administrations. In response, Lower Bavarian municipalities are now focusing more on prevention and regular exchange among their ISOs. The Landshut District Administration is also migrating its Information Security Management System (ISMS) to the BSI IT baseline protection to meet growing demands. The conference is set to take place annually in different locations in the future, reflecting the ongoing commitment to improving cybersecurity in the region.
The first annual conference of Information Security Officers from Lower Bavarian district administrations and independent cities underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in combating cyber threats. With the Landshut District Administration leading the way in ISO certification and ISMS migration, municipalities in the region are better equipped to protect against the rising threat of cyber attacks.
