London's Latest Eatery Offers a Taste of a Greek Island Paradise
In the heart of London, Greek cuisine has become the city's latest culinary trend. Yet, few establishments can match the culinary finesse of Myrtos by Asimakis, a fresh solo venture from Michelin-starred chef Asimakis Chaniotis.
Chaniotis, who previously maintained Pied à Terre's Michelin star for seven years, brings his refined culinary expertise to this new venture, merging the elegance of his native Athens with the rustic charm of his adopted Greek home, Kefalonia. The restaurant is named after Myrtos Beach, Kefalonia's most famous and picturesque shoreline.
The exterior design, a collaboration between South African architect Vernon Viljoen and Block1:Design, transports guests to a Greek island idyll in the sophisticated surroundings of South Kensington. Circular tables encircle an olive tree under moon-like lamps, while contemporary Greek landscape art by Christos Raptis and Yorgos Papadopoulos adorns the walls. Aside from the indoor seating, pavement tables offer the chance to enjoy alfresco dining when the weather is suitable.
Myrtos' menu showcases Chaniotis' Michelin-pedigreed flair, incorporating the best British and Greek ingredients. A cheese trolley features an enticing array of Greek cheeses, including the smoked Metsovone from northern Greece. On the menu, diners can find unique fusion dishes like Dorset Snails on Flatbread, inspired by Cretan comfort snail stew. The Lobster Giouvetsi offers a taste of Greece with a British twist, featuring orzo pasta, lobster, tomatoes, mussels, lemon, and basil.
Myrtos' cocktail list, curated by Athens bar Line – currently ranked sixth on the World's 50 Best Bars list – boasts innovative Greek-inspired cocktails such as the spiced pomegranate mule.
