London flat's 'Storage Wall' conceals mess, allowing showcase of design arts
In the heart of South-West London, nestled on the third floor of a Victorian townhouse, lies a unique and captivating abode that serves as more than just a residence. This modern home, owned by Isabelle Dubern-Mallevays, co-founder of The Invisible Collection, offers a glimpse into the world of high-end design and the story behind this innovative online platform.
Before purchasing the property four years ago, Isabelle and her husband had been renting the space. One of the most striking features of the apartment is the oversized Charles Zana sofa, which has found its permanent home in the living room and shows no signs of moving anytime soon.
The interior design of the apartment is a harmonious blend of muted modern colours and textures, including velvet, wool, and cashmere, creating a calming and inviting atmosphere. The walls have been painted in a soothing gray-beige hue, with various shades of greige, brown, dark blue, and pale pink used throughout the decor.
Isabelle's home also doubles as a mini showroom for The Invisible Collection, showcasing a selection of rare and high-quality furniture and design pieces, many of which are from 20th-century Scandinavian design and iconic pieces from established designers.
The couple enjoys quiet evenings in this stylish sanctuary, reading and relaxing, hosting intimate dinners for friends and family, and working from the oversized Charles Zana sofa. The apartment's tranquil ambiance, combined with its prime location overlooking a quiet garden square at the front and a churchyard garden at the back, makes it the perfect retreat.
The property's previous owner was a "Chic Scottish woman," who left behind two walls of storage in the large living room. One wall is hidden behind wall paneling, while the other is made up of bookshelves. The home also features various pieces of art and occasional tables, adding to its eclectic charm.
The Invisible Collection was founded by Isabelle, along with Anna Zaoui and Lily Froehlicher, with the aim of making exclusive design objects accessible to a broader audience while preserving their heritage and stories through digital means. The detailed founding story or motivation behind the platform's creation can be found on their official website or in interviews with the founders.
When they're not in London, Isabelle and her husband, Pierre Mallevays, reside in a flat in Paris. Despite having two beautiful homes, they find comfort and inspiration in the unique blend of old and new that their South-West London apartment offers.
