Lizzo's fashion line, Yitty, now available for resale through ThredUp.
In a move aimed at enhancing sustainability and reducing environmental impact, Fabletics and its sister brand Yitty have announced a partnership with ThredUp, the leading online platform for secondhand fashion. This collaboration will allow customers to purchase pre-owned Yitty products directly on ThredUp's website.
Fabletics, known for its resale business model, has been steadily increasing its secondhand options for shoppers over the past two years. The addition of Yitty to its existing program with ThredUp further solidifies this commitment.
Lizzo's shapewear line, Yitty, launched in April 2022 and offers sizing from XS to 6X, catering to a wide range of body types. The Yitty shop takes up around 300 square feet or 10% of the total store area.
The partnership between Yitty and ThredUp aims to make it easier for consumers to recirculate pre-loved clothing, thereby reducing the environmental footprint associated with clothing production and disposal. By encouraging the resale and reuse of garments, this collaboration helps decrease the demand for new clothing manufacturing, which in turn reduces resource use, energy consumption, and textile waste.
Secondhand marketplaces like ThredUp extend the life of clothing, preventing items from ending up in landfills and mitigating the environmental impact of fast fashion cycles. However, it's important to note that not all used clothing may be of a quality that is agreeable for resale at market prices.
Fabletics CEO Adam Goldenberg has stated that the company is extending its partnership with ThredUp. Customers can use ThredUp's Clean Out program to send in gently used products from any brand in exchange for Fabletics and Yitty shopping credit. The shopping credit can be used online or in stores.
The global secondhand market, including Fabletics and Yitty, is estimated to reach $350 billion by 2027, according to ThredUp and GlobalData. While the benefits of the secondhand market may not be enough to resolve the detrimental environmental impact of the fashion industry, it is a significant step towards a more sustainable future.
The Yitty shop at a Fabletics location in Fashion Place Mall in Murray, Utah, opened its doors in July. Yitty, like Fabletics, focuses on creating products that cater to all body types. The recent announcement of Yitty's resale partnership with ThredUp comes just a few days before Earth Day on April 22, highlighting the brand's commitment to sustainability.
