Lippstadt's Iconic Water Tower Transformed into Artistic Light Column
Lippstadt's iconic water tower has undergone a stunning transformation, now housing an artistic light column that creates an illusion of an endless sun and cloud tower. The tower, the city's tallest building, is open for public tours from October to March, sponsored by Sparkassenstiftung to promote art and free for visitors.
The water tower, operational since 1901, supplied Lippstadt with drinking water for over seven decades. Now, it stands as a monument, renovated and maintained by Sparkassenstiftung Lippstadt. The light column, installed during the renovation, is accompanied by an acoustic backdrop, adding an artistic touch to the tower's interior.
Public tours of the water tower are offered on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from October to March. The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes, with the meeting point at the water tower itself. Registration is required due to limited capacity and can be done at the city information desk or by phone.
The first public tour of the 2025-2026 season will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM. The water tower, with its unique light column and artistic backdrop, promises an unforgettable experience for visitors, all free of charge thanks to Sparkassenstiftung's sponsorship.
