Leipzig schools contend for the title in the school garden contention
Two Saxon Schools Advance in State Garden Competition
Two schools in Saxony, the Leipzig Gutenberg School and the Eilenburg Vocational School Center, have made it to the final round of the Saxon School Garden competition. Each school will receive 1,000 euros in prize money as a recognition of their innovative approaches to school gardening.
If either school is chosen as a state winner, they will receive an additional 2,500 euros. The jury, yet to be named, will visit the schools in May to select the three state winners from the ten finalists.
The Eilenburg Vocational School Center's garden focuses on edible plants and herbs, and is integrated into their vocational training programs for horticulture students. The school's garden also features a composting system for organic waste.
On the other hand, the Leipzig Gutenberg School's garden is used to teach students about sustainable farming practices. The garden includes a variety of fruits and vegetables, and a greenhouse for year-round plant cultivation.
Both schools have impressed the jury with their school gardens. The Eilenburg Vocational School Center's garden is a testament to their commitment to sustainable and practical gardening, while the Leipzig Gutenberg School's garden demonstrates a focus on teaching students about sustainable farming.
The competition, now in its final stages, promises to showcase the best of school gardening in Saxony. The three state winners will be announced in May, after the jury has visited the finalist schools and made their decisions.
