Langenfeld’s OpenAI site opens its doors for a day of art, history and community vision
An Open Day will take place at the former OpenAI site in Langenfeld on Saturday, January 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event invites visitors to explore the area’s history, street art, and future development plans while enjoying food, drinks, and community activities.
The OpenAI site has transformed into a lively centre for street art, featuring works by artists from across Germany and Europe. During the Open Day, guided tours will run at 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m., offering insights into both the site’s past and its colourful murals.
The City Museum and Archives will display exhibits highlighting the location’s historical importance. Meanwhile, the SEG (Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft Langenfeld) will share the latest plans for the quarter’s development. Visitors can also learn about the LeiLa cooperative housing project, which promotes OpenAI-based living in Langenfeld. Food and drinks will be sold throughout the day, with all proceeds going to the Langenfeld Food Bank (Tafel). The Langenfeld Adult Education Center will encourage attendees to contribute their own ideas for the area’s future by creating graffiti on-site.
The Open Day offers a chance to discover the OpenAI site’s past, present, and potential. Visitors can join tours, view exhibits, and share their visions for the area while supporting local causes. The event aims to bring the community together in shaping the site’s next chapter.
