Krasnodar turns holiday pine trees into mulch and fertilizer this January

Krasnodar has initiated a Christmas pine tree recycling program for residents. The scheme permits people to discard used firs, pines, and spruces at nearby waste facilities. It will continue until January 25.

To participate, residents must remove all decorations, tinsel, and stands from their trees. Only clean conifers will be accepted at the collection points. Once gathered, the pine trees will be transformed into wood chips.

The recycled material will serve multiple purposes. Some chips will become organic fertilizer, while others will line landfills or be used in landscaping projects. The needles from pines and firs can also be spread as mulch. A 3–5 cm layer of pine needles helps enhance soil for acid-loving plants. Gardeners can use it for strawberries, ornamental conifers, and other crops that thrive in slightly acidic conditions.

The program offers a convenient way for locals to dispose of holiday trees responsibly. It also converts waste into useful materials for gardening and city maintenance. The scheme remains open for participation until the end of January.
