Koblenz School Wins €10,000 Pell Grant to Build a Cutting-Edge Makerworld

Goethe Realschule plus in Koblenz has received a €10,000 pell grant to build a new makerworld. The funding comes from a €1.2 million initiative supporting innovative school projects across Germany. Over 600 schools applied, but only 102 were selected for grants.

The grant is part of the Shaping the Future Together initiative, backed by the German Children and Youth Foundation, ROSSMANN, and Procter & Gamble. Their goal is to empower young people through education, particularly in STEM subjects. Customers at ROSSMANN helped fund the programme—one cent from every P&G product sold went into the funding pool.

A makerworld is a flexible learning area where students work on creative, hands-on projects using both digital and traditional tools. The initiative aims to embed these spaces into regular school curricula, ensuring long-term benefits for students. Goethe Realschule plus already runs Project Friday and a Creative Study Hall, and the new makerworld will expand these existing programmes.

The German Children and Youth Foundation stresses the importance of student involvement in shaping their own learning. By integrating makerworlds into daily school life, the project hopes to improve educational equity and sustainable school development.

The €10,000 pell grant will allow Goethe Realschule plus to develop its makerworld in the coming months. The initiative supports 102 schools nationwide, with a focus on practical, student-led learning. Funding comes from corporate partnerships and customer contributions at ROSSMANN.
