Kids turn fresh apples into cider at this hands-on school event

Oepfershausen Primary School recently hosted a delightful apple-picking event, followed by a cider-making session led by local expert Ralf Linse, affectionately known as the 'Apple Man'. The school's strong partnership with the Thuringian Rhön Landscape Conservation Association made this environmental learning experience possible.

The day began with the harvest of apples, including rare heritage varieties, from the school's Dörrensolz orchard. Parents and children worked together, completing the task in just an hour. The following morning, Linse brought his mobile cider press to the schoolyard. He shared his philosophy of processing and producing regional products with the eager young minds. The children enthusiastically helped press the apples into juice, learning about the process firsthand. The day concluded with a tasty reward as they got to sample the fresh apple juice they had produced.

The apple-picking and cider-making event at Oepfershausen Primary School was not only fun but also educational. It allowed children to engage with their local environment and learn about regional products. The school's partnership with the Thuringian Rhön Landscape Conservation Association continues to enrich students' learning experiences, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and local heritage.
