Kids Sleep Under a Giant Whale at NYC’s Natural History Museum
Nearly 400 children aged six to twelve spent a night at the American Museum of Natural History last Friday. The monthly sleepover event, 'History Under the Whale', ran from 6 PM until midnight, offering young visitors a chance to explore the museum's famous exhibits after hours.
The evening began with guided tours of the museum’s dinosaur fossils and other historical artifacts. Kids then took part in dinosaur-themed crafts, karaoke sessions, and late-night snacks. As bedtime approached, they settled under the iconic 94-foot blue whale, sleeping in bags on cots.
Laura C. Rodriguez, the museum’s Director of Programs, oversees these events. Each month, children get to experience the exhibits in a unique way, blending education with fun activities.
The sleepover wrapped up at midnight, giving children a memorable night surrounded by natural history. The museum plans to continue hosting these events monthly, offering more young visitors the same opportunity. You can find upcoming events and book tickets on the museum's official website or through Eventbrite.
